Eggstra! Eggstra!

Read all about it!

We had a crazy, but good Easter!  It started with us getting chicks :))  We are going to raise them, and they are going to give us eggs.  We will be converting the back of our wooden shed into a coop for when they get bigger, complete with a ramp and roosts.  And no, we do not need a rooster to get eggs.  They will lay them all by themselves.

Quinn wasn't sure at first what to do with them.  He was certainly interested, and had loved playing with them at IFA.  But now they were in his home...

All he wanted to do was hold them.  I had to keep reminding him not to pat them hard like he does the puppy.

He loves to just sit there and watch them.

From the left bottom to right top, the chicks' names are Ethel, Gertrude, and Henrietta.

We have them on top of a table for now, in their box with a light to keep them warm.  Quinn loves to stand on the table and stare at them.

Eating their seed.  (left to right, Gertrude, Ethel, and Henrietta)

Then on Saturday, Quinn and I went to my Grandma Rosie's house with my family for a barbecue and egg hunt.  Josh couldn't come because he was in Colorado getting a new couch from his Grandma Nancy.  He got back safely that night, though.
Grandpa Alan helped Quinn go around and find the eggs.

Quinn had fun finding them around the yard.

Danny had a blast playing with our puppy and Quinn.

It was so cold... Quinn didn't like it very much, but he refused to stay in my lap in front of the heater.

 Egg-cited!

Quinn got to sit at the little table with the other big kids.

...While Pooch was tied up away from the food.  He wasn't a very happy puppy.  He thought he was dying lol. Silly, poor puppy

Then on Sunday, after going to our dear friends, the Bowens, baby's blessing (their daughter, Tabitha, and Quinn are betrothed), we went to the McNeff's house for dinner and an egg drop.
My rules were only paper products, string, and tape.  Though I also allowed  plastic bags.

This is a home-esque video that Josh made while we were creating our egg drops.

Mariah's contraption

Julie's egg box and parachute (Karen's sister), with Quinn trying to figure out the tape to her side

My masterpiece

Miranda's Egg Capsule 3000

Gabe's monstrosity (he somehow snuck balloons into his creation)

Matt and Karen's egg (I told them it was a representation of their daughter, and Matt better be careful how he treats that egg), snugly suspended in that box.

X marks the spot that Josh was to aim for from the roof.

I was trying to get a good-looking shot of Quinn, but he was too distracted.

THE OUTCOME:
Matt and Karen's daughter - still intact!

Miranda's egg - crushed and oozing

Julie's egg - a survivor!

Mariah's egg - Safe!

Gabe apparently did NOT crack his egg before the drop, because it was untouched by any imperfections

Matt and Karen, proud of their joint effort

Me, rather proud of my contraption.  So much so, that I allowed a picture of me holding it

Man's Bike

I just want everyone to know that there is no question, no dispute, nothing whatsoever over whether or not I'm an amazing wife!  Because I am, and Josh will be paying me back for a very long time.  Why?  Because I let him buy a motorcycle.  Yup.  What was I thinking?  I don't know.  I grew up around them, my dad had one, no biggie... until I see my inexperienced husband driving this one home along the back streets because he has yet to get his license to legally drive this thing.  But, before he can do that, he has to take classes (my stipulation in this deal.  That, and I own him).

So, the story - because there's always a story, right?  Last week sometime, Josh brought up the idea of buying a motorcycle for his commute to Lowe's 5 times a week to save on gas (rumors are prices are going over $5 this summer).  I like saving money, so why not?  But, being the logical thinker I am, I pulled out Excel and created a spreadsheet showing the costs and gains of owning a bike.  I did some research on prices, got a quote on insurance, etc.  Turns out, it'll take him less than two summers to pay off everything we are spending on getting this bike, just by driving it instead of our car.  Fine... I'm sold.  IF he could find one for under $1000.

And... he did.  KSL works wonders.  We picked up his new baby for $500 today in Orem, got a newish helmet for $45, and will work on getting it registered and insured soon (and him enrolled in classes to get his license).  You won't see him strutting down the freeway on it for a little while.  But my man is stoked beyond belief.  He keeps just wanting to go outside in the rain to stare at it.  I guess his nerves of driving it home wore off rather quickly along the way...

Quinn got to try out Daddy's new "hat"

 He's stylin'

Puppy House!

We just finished building Pooch a dog house for when he's stuck outside.  We've been feeling really bad everytime we have to go somewhere, and it starts to rain or something, because we don't trust leaving him in the house alone yet.  So, we decided to build him a house.  For now, it's in our front yard, since that's where he spends all his outside time.  But as he gets older, and we fix our back gate, we'll move him to the back yard.  He's still inside most of the time, especially at night.  But at least he now has some shelter for when he's outside.  We're also planning on painting it, but the weather needs to dry and warm up a bit first.

Quinn was a big help.  He even had his own little hammer.  He was so stinkin cute to watch!

Just making sure Josh can fit inside.  I told him he better get comfy, just in case he ends up spending a lot of nights out there ;)

 Finished product (minus paint)

 Quinn likes it, too

 And so does Pooch
